Engines
Rock City Railroad Locomotives

I recently took apart a few of my non-working N steam engines and was suprised at how cool they were engineered and how easy it was to assemble and disassemble them. Of course, they were made in West Germany.

Here at the Rock City Railroad, we're still low on engines. We've been waiting to get the layout a little more complete before indulging in locomotives. So far we've got a fleet of Athern engines, Union Pacific and Burlington, a Kato switcher, a Riverossi Big Boy, courtesy of Mark Dawson, a cool little green steamer and a bunch of engines that don't run.

It seems the Katos are way better than the others, and though they cost more, it's worth it. This applies to HO scale and N scale.

So far I've learned that engines that come in those train kits are practically worthless. Anything with brass wheels are worthless. HO and N stuff are seldom worth anything as antiques, as the only old trains that become worth more as they get older are the tinplate O scale trains and stuff like that (Lionel, S scale, American Flyer, etc).

In Z scale, there's only Marklin, it seems, and they are good. Stay tuned for more info on the Rock CIty Locomotive department
