 Beach Information

Special Comments: Windansea Beach has been a surfing mecca in Southern California since the early '60s. The main break at the foot of Bonair Street has a very consistent, world-class reef wave. In addition, there are several other excellent reef breaks near the main break. Big Rock at the south end of Windansea has a very steep, fast and hollow wave reminiscent of Hawaii's Banzai Pipeline. Simmons Reef at the north end is also an excellent reef break.

The north end of Windansea Beach is mostly rocky while the south end from Playa del Norte to Palomar Street is all sand. The sand beach is a great place for sun bathing and for body surfing or "whomping" in the shore break. When there is no surf the rocky north end of the beach has excellent snorkeling.

Lifeguards are stationed seasonally at Windansea Beach at the foot of Bonair Street near the shack. Lifeguard coverage is full-time in the summer and during spring and fall weekends.

Windansea Beach like Marine Street and La Jolla Shores is an alcohol-free beach. Other typical City of San Diego regulations apply at Windansea. Dogs are permitted only before 9 a.m. and after 6 p.m. and must be leashed at all times. Glass beverage containers are prohibited. Fires are permitted only in approved containers.

Food/dining: The nearest food to Windansea Beach is north on La Jolla Boulevard, and on Pearl Street. There are many restaurants from which to choose in this area.

Restrooms: There are no public restrooms available at Windansea Beach.
