 Beach Information

Special Comments: Silver Strand State Beach offers facilities on both the Pacific Ocean and San Diego Bay sides of the strand. The ocean side of the park covers about 2* miles of beach and the bay side covers about a half mile. Only the northern half mile of the ocean side of the park is developed, making the southern two miles a great place for a quiet walk away from the crowds.

The swimming beach on the bay side offers calmer and slightly warmer water than the ocean side. The park is accessed from the north or south at a single entry point on State Highway 75/Silver Strand Boulevard. There are four large parking lots all located on the ocean side. Vehicles are prohibited on the bay side.

Visitors can access the bay side of the park via three tunnels that pass beneath Highway 75. The bay side offers extensive picnic facilities with shade structures, tables, barbecue pits and fire rings.

Camping is available on the north end of the ocean side for self-contained vehicles, including motor homes and trailers. Camping fees are $12 per day with senior and disabled discounts available.

Dogs are permitted only in the parking lot areas and must be leashed at all times. They are not permitted on the beach, in the tunnels or anywhere on the San Diego Bay side of the highway.

Food/dining: There is a food concession within the park near the Lifeguard Station, but it's only open during busy times, so you may want to call ahead.

Restrooms: Restrooms with cold showers are available throughout the northern half mile of the park on both the ocean and bay sides of the strand.
