Because of the difficult parking, locals dominate these secluded coves. Teens tend to gravitate to Crescent; Santa Ana attracts more couples and families; sports enthusiasts favor Boat and Divers; and Heisler draws a lot of tourists from the local hotels.

Food/Dining: No food stands on the beach, but you'll find a 7-11 at Pacific Coast Highway at Viejo Street, and a grocery store at Boat Canyon Drive. Heisler Park offers a large, well-maintained picnic area on a bluff with grills.

Facilities: Lifeguards, bus stop, surfing, diving, fishing, volleyball, tide pools, showers.

Restrooms: The small restrooms have not been renovated in recent years.

Dogs: From June 1 to Sept. 15, leashed dogs allowed on the beach only before 8 a.m. or after 6 p.m. From Sept. 16 to May 31, leashed dogs allowed on the beach at all times. You must pick up after your dog.
