Beach Information
Special Comments: The Avalon Bay beach is the first thing you see when you get off the boat. It is a small stretch of man-made sandy beach that sits atop the natural pebble shoreline, just south of the pier. The largest stretch is in front of the pedestrian walkway on Crescent Ave., but there are other small beaches along the bay toward the Casino. Get your spot early in the high season, because it fills up quickly. Also, this is the only beach in Avalon that has lifeguards, so there are usually lots of kids. The swimming area doesn't extend out very far, since the beach is located in a busy harbor. There is plenty to do at the beach. Nearby rentals shops offer snorkeling, kayaking, parasailing and glass bottom boat trips. They are all in the same price range, so don't stress too much about finding the best deal. Snorkeling will run you about $25 for a mask, snorkel, fins and a wet suit for the whole day. There are hourly rates available. Plus, you can rent each piece separately. Kayaks will run you about $10 an hour up to $65 a day for a double.
