LIMP BIZKIT, PRIMUS
At The Palladium

By Prince Of Darkness

The trusty ol' echo chamber got one hell of a workout this particular weekend, as a mere two nights after the Pantera/Anthrax/Coal Chamber extravaganza reared its ugly head, the Palladium was host to an intriguing bill that teamed one of heavy musics up and comers with a band that has been marching to their own beat for close to a decade. Actually, Limp Bizkit has been making noise in underground circles for a while now. Starting with word of mouth buzz; a tour with Korn; picking up considerable steam with a stint on this years Warped Tour and holding their own with the notoriously fickle toward opening acts Faith No More fans, they now have a loyal fan base that made their presence known this evening. Onstage it was a typically rambuncious performance. The funny thing was that even though the material off their debut disc "Three Dollar Bill, Y'all" came acoss fine, it would be two covers that would stand out as highlights of the set. "Anybdy here lke Ministry?" asked vocalist Fred Durst, and next thing Prince of Darkness knew th leadoff riff to "Thieves" came out of nowhere. At first He thought it was a tease, you know, when a band will play the opening notes to on of your favorite songs only to stop when get into it? Not this time, as Limp Bizkit performed a faithful rendition that offered a deparure from the dark tinged, hip-hop flavored heaviness of their own stuff. The next surprise really shouldn't have surprised anyone but was very cool all the same. Longtime pals - shit, they discovered Limp Bizkit - Reggie "Fieldy" and Jon from Korn came out and joined in on a rowdy runthrough of Ice Cube's "Wicked," which, of course, Korn themselves covered on "Life is Peachy." Jon has gained a few pounds during his layoff, too! Anyway, most of the kids in the crowd thought it was a Korn song, but what the fuck. Let the younguns have their fun. It's only rap n' roll and Prince of Darkness likes it. When Les Claypool says "We're going to play alot of old stuff tonight," he ain't fucking around. P of D has seen Primus around ten times, but the set list they played from this time was a fans dream. Getting things in a festive mood by placing giant revolving balloons at the front and back of the floor, the San Fran trio touched on their entire catalog. Lucky for Prince of Darkness, this meant dipping extensively into his favorite of the bands epics, "Sailing The Seas Of Cheese," with "Blue Collar Tweekers," "Here Come The Bastards" and of course "Jerry Was A Race Car Driver" all getting all star treatment. They even did "Tommy The Cat," which any fan will tell you isn't a given. Want obscure? How about "Too Many Puppies" off 1990's "Frizzle Fry." All things can't be perfect, however. No "Mr. Krinkle" off "Pork Soda" was the only complaint, but that will gladly be sarificed for the other stuff heard.
