FILTHY LUCRE
at The Coconut Teaszer

By Blue Angel

Hey! this one is for you Mr. AM/PM...There are not that many bands out right now that I'll remember five years from now. But who can ever forget the way Phil Lewis (L.A. Guns) made you feel way back when life was good and rock 'n' roll was even better. Blue Angel was overwhelmed by FILTHY LUCRE, a band who's influence stems from the old bluesy Rolling Stones music to Aerosmith's good ol' rock. Phil's stage presence alone had everyone's attention. His vocal style and talent hasn't changed, it's only gotten better. There are very few frontmen who absolutely have that "Rock Star" image and no matter how many years go by this man has got it! Filthy Lucre's musicianship is excellent with vocals shared and swapped between lead guitarist and Phil. At some points they reminded me of Keith Richards and Mick Jagger (but Phil is better looking) and he definitely stands alone. You couldn't help but let your imagination get the best of you and each time I looked at him I couldn't help but see him in the "The Ballad of Jayne" video with his eyes deadlocked on the camera...I guess Phil will always strike a chord in everyone who followed him while he was with L.A. Guns. At one point the band invited a saxophonist to get up there and jam...with that kind of style this band is on it's way up. I know that everyone at The Teaszer was just as captivated as I. This band carries much of the old rock blended with a new twist and you add the final ingredient of Phil's voice and you've got a winner. They have an upcoming CD set to be released as I write this and I know I will get my hands on one, so I suggest you do the same. Blue Angel know what's best for you....So don't you forget it! I'm sure you'll see my shadow at their next gig! Just a reminder: A personal invite to you "POPPA" from Rob, don't forget to check out Dog Tooth Violet on November 15th at The Roxy! and guess what! Your kids will be there too!
